Abstract
As chemistry is a science in constant evolution, the contents of the General Chemistry discipline offered by Brazilian Higher Education Institutions should reflect this fact. Some alternatives to the teaching of general chemistry have been proposed in other countries, but little is known about what is being taught in Brazil, in both the theoretical and the experimental aspects. Thus, a search for information about the discipline of General Chemistry was conducted during the first semester of 2004 within the Brazilian Higher Education Institutions. Based on the data obtained, it is possible to present an overview of the current status of this discipline in Brazil.
