Abstract

Over the last thirty years, the perception of human beings on the need to preserve the environment has increased significantly. During this period, Environmental Chemistry is one of the areas of science which has developed to understand the composition and behavior of soil, water and air, the complex interactions between these systems, how they are influenced by human activities and what are the consequences.

This book helps to address the lack of qualified teaching materials written in the portuguese language, for graduate students in chemistry and related areas. The authors discuss, from an educational perspective, the chemistry involved in the flow of matter and energy in the atmosphere, hydrosphere and lithosphere, based primarily on their experiences as teachers and scientists.

Certainly, due to the quality of information and its didactic approach, this book will contribute significantly in the training of professionals in environmental sciences and related areas.
