Abstract

SOLID EXPERIMENTAL BASE: The core of the book is the methods of analysis for fertility developed by IAC, based on long trials, with a view to improve diagnostics for Brazilian soils.

EVALUATION OF FERTILITY: In the basic analysis of fertility the extraction of P by ion-exchange resin, and the different options of procedures for the exchangeable cations, little affected by the extraction processes are highlighted. To determine the total acidity, such methods include the use of SMP buffer, which requires only one measurement of pH, as well as the option for the standard method, with calcium acetate. Thus, it is possible to calculate the values of CEC at pH 7.0 and the percentage of saturation, used in liming. The book also selected methods for a complete chemical analysis of fertility, including sulfur, micronutrients and total and inorganic nitrogen.

POLUTION: Also included procedures for the determination of potentially toxic metals using extracti with DTPA or the methods of the environmental protection agency of the United States.

BASIC LABORATORY PROCEDURES AND QUALITY CONTROL: Other chapters deal with basic laboratory procedures, preparation of solutions, specific equipment for laboratory soil analysis, instrumentation, sample preparation, statistical quality control reporting units.

THE AUTHORS: The book is a joint work of researchers and professors of the Agronomic Institute, the Institute of Chemistry of the State University of Campinas, Embrapa Environment, CENA / USP, ESALQ / USP, UNESP-Jaboticabal and the Federal University of Paraíba.
